Material Overview

Materials for Safe and Efficient Packaging

At Tipoplastika, the selection of packaging materials is not a matter of aesthetics — it’s an engineering decision that directly impacts shelf life, product stability, consumer safety, and logistical efficiency. Every material entering our production process is carefully selected based on specific technological and functional requirements.

We use a wide range of flexible substrates — from basic mono-materials such as PE (polyethylene), PET (polyethylene terephthalate), OPA (polyamide), and BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene), to composite structures that incorporate barrier layers such as aluminum foil, metallized film, and even waxed paper.

In addition to base films, our processes — including coextrusion, lamination, and adhesive lamination — combine multiple layers to achieve targeted functionality, whether it’s aroma retention, light resistance, reduced oxygen permeability, or adaptability for vacuum and modified atmosphere packaging.

Our materials are carefully tested and ranked based on key performance parameters:

  • Water vapor transmission rate (WVTR)

  • Oxygen barrier

  • Resistance to oils and fats

  • Protection from UV and visible light

  • Aroma and flavor retention

  • Mechanical strength

  • Low temperature resistance

  • Suitability for vacuum packaging and shape retention

As a result, we can deliver exactly what your product requires — whether it’s chocolate, spices, dried pasta, frozen meat, pharmaceutical products, or chemicals. In the following section, through detailed presentations and comparative tables, we present the most commonly used materials and their functional characteristics.

Material Structures and Their Functional Roles

From mono-films to multilayer laminates – precise selection of packaging structures for your product’s specific requirements.

Below is an educational and professional overview of the most commonly used material combinations at Tipoplastika, grouped by structure type. Each description covers the composition, key advantages, and typical applications in the food, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.

PET / PE

Polyethylene Terephthalate + Polyethylene

PET/PE is one of the most widely used structures in flexible packaging, offering an excellent balance of mechanical strength and sealing properties.

PET provides high tear resistance, excellent printability, and acts as an oxygen and moisture barrier.

The PE layer ensures sealability, flexibility, and moisture resistance.

  • Suitable for: pasta, spices, snacks, cosmetics, cleaning agents
  • Excellent optical properties, ideal for branding and printing

PET / AL / PE

Polyethylene Terephthalate + Aluminum Foil + Polyethylene

Multilayer barrier structure with aluminum foil as the core layer.

Aluminum foil provides total protection from light, oxygen, and odors.

Used when maximum barrier properties are needed for sensitive or high-fat products.

  • Suitable for: coffee, spices, instant soups, dried and processed meat, medical and pharmaceutical products
  • Exceptional protection and extended shelf life

OPP / CPP

Oriented Polypropylene + Cast Polypropylene

A combination for flexible and cost-effective packaging.

OPP offers good optics and printability.

CPP enables reliable heat sealing and tear resistance.

  • Suitable for: cookies, wafers, snack products, chocolate
  • Economical solution with strong product presentation

OPP / OPP met

White or matte OPP + Metallized OPP

Used when additional protection from light and oxygen is required, while maintaining attractive shelf appearance.

Metallized OPP provides reflectivity and barrier properties, while the top OPP layer enables excellent print quality.

  • Suitable for: candies, cookies, chewing gum, energy bars
  • Optimal balance between visual effect and protective function

OPA / PE

Polyamide + Polyethylene

OPA (nylon) delivers outstanding puncture and tear resistance, while PE ensures effective sealing.

Excellent performance at low temperatures and in vacuum packaging.

  • Suitable for: meat, fish, frozen products, pet food
  • Ideal for deep-freezing and modified atmosphere packaging

PA / PP

Polyamide + Polypropylene

Similar to the previous structure, but with a PP layer instead of PE.

Provides higher thermal resistance and is used for products that require sterilization or thermal processing.

  • Suitable for: ready meals, cook-in-bag products
  • High barrier and mechanical resistance

Paper / PE

Paper + Polyethylene

Classic structure for basic protection and a natural visual impression.

PE provides moisture and grease resistance, while paper enables easy recycling and high-quality printing.

  • Suitable for: bakery products, powdered additives, spices
  • Natural look with a strong balance of functionality and aesthetics

Paper / AL / PE

Paper + Aluminum + Polyethylene

Combines the traditional appearance of paper with the strong barrier properties of aluminum.

Applied where high protection is required, but also a natural visual effect.

  • Suitable for: butter, margarine, yeast, food blocks
  • Classic packaging with high performance

PET / OPA / PE

Polyethylene Terephthalate + Polyamide + Polyethylene

Combines high optical clarity, mechanical strength, and sealing properties.

Suitable for thermally processed products, liquids, and pastes.

  • Suitable for: sauces, soups, ready meals, doypack packaging
  • High resistance to sealing and sterilization

PET / AL / PET / PE

Multilayer barrier structure with additional PET layer

This structure offers enhanced protection and stability, used for the most demanding products.

High resistance to external factors and excellent product protection.

  • Suitable for: pharmaceutical and medical products, chemicals, functional food
  • Exceptional durability, stability, and protection

Materials That Empower Your Product

Packaging does not exist for its own sake – it exists to protect what matters inside.
That’s why every material we use has a clearly defined role, tailored to the specific product it is designed to protect. Whether it’s fatty foods, delicate aromas, sterile pharmaceutical preparations, or chemical concentrates, the choice of materials depends on the physical and chemical characteristics of the packaged contents.

Below, we present the most common material combinations we use for different product groups and industries. This overview will help you identify which materials offer optimal protection, functionality, and visual impact for the specific requirements of your packaging.

Printing and Production Technologies

The Materials We Choose Are Never Random – They Are Proven by Industry Standards.

At Tipoplastika, our material selection is never generic or by default – it is a strategic process, aligned with the chemical, mechanical, and sensory requirements of your product. If you need packaging that makes no compromises and delivers measurable results, let’s talk.
